Uganda Visa Guide

Most nationalities need a visa to enter Uganda. Here’s the practical, current-as-of-writing process — and why we still recommend double-checking before you travel.

i Your Two Main Options

Uganda e-Visa (Single Country)

  • Applied for online in advance, typically ~$50 for most nationalities
  • Valid for entry into Uganda only
  • Standard processing is usually a few business days, though we recommend applying at least 3–4 weeks ahead

East Africa Tourist Visa

  • A single visa covering Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya, typically ~$100
  • Multiple entries within the three countries during a 90-day window
  • The better option if you’re combining a Rushaga habituation day with Rwanda trekking

What You’ll Need to Apply

Common Visa Mistakes to Avoid

Applying Through Third-Party Sites

Unofficial “visa agency” sites rank highly in search and charge inflated fees for a service the official portal provides directly. Apply only through Uganda’s official immigration e-visa portal.

Applying Too Close to Departure

Processing is usually a few business days, but delays happen. Applying 3–4 weeks out leaves room to fix a rejected application without threatening your trip.

Buying the Wrong Visa for a Multi-Country Trip

A single-country e-visa won’t cover a Rwanda add-on. If you’re combining Rushaga with Volcanoes National Park, the East Africa Tourist Visa is the one you need.

Forgetting the Yellow Fever Certificate

A valid visa doesn’t substitute for proof of yellow fever vaccination — travelers without it have been delayed or denied entry at the border.

Our Honest Recommendation

Visa fees, processing times and requirements are set by the Ugandan government and do change periodically. We send every confirmed guest a personalized, current visa checklist as part of pre-trip planning — treat this page as a general overview, not the final word, and apply through the official Uganda immigration portal directly.
