A hillside lodge a 10-minute walk from the Rushaga gate of Bwindi, with forest-view cottages and an easy start to every gorilla habituation and trekking day.

Ichumbi Gorilla Lodge sits on a hillside in Rushaga, in the south of Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, about a 10-minute walk from the Rushaga gate. That location makes it one of the most convenient bases in Uganda for the Gorilla Habituation Experience, which starts from the Rushaga park office.
The name comes from the local Rufumbira language and means “a cool, comfortable home”. Cottages look across to the forest and to the farmed hills opposite, and birds are easy to spot from the balconies.
It is a comfortable mid-range choice: well kept, friendly and close to the trailhead, without the price of the area’s luxury lodges.
Habituation note: staying within walking distance of the Rushaga gate means no early drive on your habituation morning.
Accommodation is in cottages designed to blend into the hillside, each with an en-suite bathroom, hot shower and a balcony facing the forest. Room types cover single, double or twin, triple and family cottages, and the deluxe rooms work well for families with double or twin beds.
Tell us the size of your group and we will match cottage types when we check availability alongside your gorilla permits.
