A non-profit eco lodge whose profits fund community water projects.
A small tented lodge on the forest edge in the Ruhija area, set in secondary forest and popular with birdwatchers and naturalists.
Cuckooland is a small, mid-range lodge on the edge of Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, about a 35-minute drive from Ruhija, the nearest gorilla tracking centre. It sits in roughly 10 acres of secondary forest.
Guests stay in self-contained tent-houses built largely from local materials. The setting is aimed at birdwatchers and naturalists, with a long bird list recorded around the property.
Before you book: lodge details change, so we confirm room types, facilities and availability directly with the lodge when we check your gorilla permits.
Ruhija sits at around 2,300 metres on Bwindi’s eastern ridge. It is cooler and quieter than the other sectors, with several habituated gorilla families for standard treks and the best birding in the park along the Mubwindi Swamp trail.
Staying in the sector you are trekking from means a short transfer on trek morning. If you also want the four-hour Gorilla Habituation Experience, plan separate nights in Rushaga, several hours away.
We arrange every transfer as part of your trip.
