Ichumbi — a Rufumbira word meaning “a cool, comfortable home” — sits on a hillside close enough to walk to the Rushaga trekking gate in about ten minutes. Thirteen cottages, each named after a native bird species (Sunbird, Turaco, Robin Chat, Warbler among them), combine traditional African design with eco-friendly building materials: the lodge harvests its own rainwater and runs on solar electricity.
Every cottage has an en-suite bathroom with hot showers and a private balcony looking out over Bwindi Forest and the surrounding hills — a good spot to unwind after the trek back from a habituation day. It’s the default lodging tier built into our Habituation Immersion package pricing, and the lodge also arranges cultural experiences for guests with a rest day to fill.
